How Dutch hospitals adopted the world’s most energy efficient ultra-clean ventilation

Soon it will be 10 years since the first Opragon was installed in Utrecht, the Netherlands. It is a milestone we would like to celebrate and share with you.

In the last 5 years we have installed more than 70 Opragon systems in leading hospitals and clinics across the Netherlands. One critical factor for the success has been an extraordinarily well-functioning collaboration with Medexs, our Dutch partner for sales, installation and validation.

Together with Medexs, Avidicare has investigated the customers’ needs for a robust and energy-efficient solution to ensure ultra-clean air in operating rooms intended for infection-sensitive surgery. Based on the customers’ wishes and needs, state-of-the-art operating rooms were designed where comfort of the medical staff was in focus, together with the safety of the patient. To minimize the risk for surgical site infections, it is of the outmost importance that the surgeon can trust that the air is ultra-clean, so that instruments and implants are not exposed to the risk of airborne contamination during surgery.

Opragon is powered by the technology called Temperature-controlled AirFlow. This means that 1.5 degrees cooler air is released in the surgical area, under the centered Opragon. In the periphery, the temperature is warmer, causing a steady downward flow of air, which sweeps bacteria and particles away from the sterile zone to the floor and then to the exhaust.

Several customers testify to a pleasant working environment, where Opragon is quiet and provides a nice comfort both for the staff in the surgical area but also for anesthesia staff who have a more subdued movement pattern and thus want a warmer temperature in the room. No air chill or turbulence is formed in the operating room.
