Avidicare is your expert partner within infection prevention and removal of airborne contaminants in your medical facilities. We offer you design support and customized ventilation solutions for any area where airborne contamination poses a risk to patients or staff. Our goal is to reduce airborne transmission of infections and increase comfort for surgical personnel. The solutions are based on our patented Temperature-controlled AirFlow technology (TcAF), the first real innovation in airflow design for decades.
The Technology
Opragon systems are designed for installation in the false ceiling in ORs used for infection sensitive surgery. There are different versions available for hybrid ORs as well as instrument preparation rooms. The units are supplied with HEPA-filtered air from a standard external air handling unit equipped with a heating/cooling coil.
The air is supplied to the room both in the central Opragon unit and in the peripherally placed airshowers (diffusors). The unique system supplies cooler air in the center than
in the peripheral airshowers, which creates ultra-clean air in the whole room. This is made possible by effectively breaking the convection currents from the staff around the patient and actively transporting away the bacteria carrying particles before they can whirl around the room and contaminate the wound or the sterile instruments.
The Opragon system complies with FGI 2018 including ASHRAE 170. Notably, the system exceeds the minimum requirements in terms of ACH, which enables ultra-clean conditions in the whole room and maximum flexibility and comfort for staff. The system has been approved by New York State Department of Health and has a pre-approval by HCAi for seismic resilience.

Evidence
Avidicare is committed to real-world validation of the Opragon system. All installations have been validated with bacteria measurements during live surgery as part of a service offering and tuning of performance.
More than 700 bacteria measurements have been performed since 2007 and illustrate the Opragon efficiency. Averages are about 0.5 cfu/m3 in the air in the immediate vicinity of the wound, 1.5 cfu/m3 close to the instrument table and 4 cfu/m3 in the periphery of the room. The median value is actually 0 cfu/m3. Avidicare can thus safely promise less than 5 cfu/m3 in the center and less than 10 cfu/m3 in the periphery. The results were achieved by teams observing proper hygienic conduct and wearing standard surgical clothing.
Our Offer
We are working together with you from the start of planning to installation and all the way throughout the lifetime of the system. Even before you become of customer of ours, we provide free design support for your surgical suite. Once you have chosen Opragon and become a customer, this is what we deliver:
- The ventilation hardware that you can see from inside the operating room, ie the central Opragon and peripheral airshowers.
- Design guidelines, or you can call it “a recipe”, protected by five patents and that describes how the system works and specification of how to set-up the installation to ensure a robust and resilient ultra-clean ventilation system. In other words, it tells what Opragon needs from HVAC to work flawlessly. We share the recipe with your HVAC/MEP consultant during the design phase and provide guidance and support during the whole project.
- A technical validation to check that the installation works as intended with airflow, temperatures, and other important technical parameters.
- A functional validation to guarantee that Opragon keeps bacteria levels ultralow during real on-going surgery.
- Additionally, annual measurements and validations are available upon request.
- We can also provide Opragon Online that keeps staff aware that all works as intended 24/7, with reporting to also share status also with others.
